In 2025, Atlanta Life Insurance Company celebrates 120 years of service — a milestone rooted in purpose and propelled by progress.

Founded in 1905 by Alonzo Herndon, a man born into slavery who became one of Atlanta's most successful entrepreneurs, Atlanta Life was created not just to sell insurance policies but to provide Black families with access to economic protection, dignity, and opportunity.

For more than a century, Atlanta Life has been a pillar of financial empowerment — from insuring families during the Jim Crow era to supporting civil rights leaders, investing in HBCUs, and building generational wealth in communities that were historically excluded from mainstream financial systems.

Today, under the leadership of Atlanta Life Holdings — led by Earvin "Magic" Johnson — we are extending that mission into a new era.
