The Second Annual Legacy Lab: Building the Future in Detroit
Updated 7:22 pm Oct 23, 2025

This October, we proudly returned to Detroit for our Second Annual Legacy Lab — an initiative created to inspire young minds and expand access to financial education. Hosted at Chandler Park Academy, this year's event reflected months of thoughtful research, development, and planning. Our goal was simple yet powerful: to make financial literacy relatable and accessible to everyone, especially children who represent the future of our communities.
The Legacy Lab is one of our most meaningful programs. It is where our commitment to education meets our belief that knowledge is the foundation of empowerment. We designed this year's experience to bring financial concepts to life in ways that felt engaging, personal, and practical. Through interactive sessions, workshops, and activities — including a financial scenario card game that helped students think through real-world choices — participants explored topics like budgeting, saving, investing, and goal-setting, all within the context of their everyday lives.
This year, we were proud to double our impact, reaching twice as many students as we did during our first Legacy Lab in 2024. That growth represents more than attendance — it demonstrates the increasing enthusiasm for financial education and the lasting value of programs that meet students where they are. As we look ahead, we aim to continue expanding our reach in the years to come, ensuring that more students gain the tools and confidence they need to take control of their financial futures.
The day was filled with energy, enthusiasm, and connection. Students learned how to think critically about money and decision-making, while also understanding how financial literacy ties to long-term stability and success. Our team shared real-world examples and guided conversations that encouraged students to ask questions, make plans, and imagine the possibilities that come with financial confidence. Every moment was designed to show that understanding finance isn't just about numbers — it's about building choices, opportunity, and independence.
Behind the success of this year's Legacy Lab was a tremendous amount of preparation. For months, our team worked closely with educators and subject matter experts to develop a program that would truly resonate. We studied how students best engage with financial topics and how to connect complex ideas to their lived experiences. The result was a day that blended education with creativity — empowering students to see money not as a barrier, but as a tool to build their own legacy.
The event was filled with moments that reminded us why this work matters. Students expressed excitement about what they learned, teachers shared their appreciation for the hands-on approach, and families raved about being hopeful for the future. For many of these students, the Legacy Lab was their first introduction to financial concepts in a real and interactive way — and that experience can shape how they think about opportunity for years to come.
Returning to Detroit for a second year was both a celebration and a commitment. It reaffirmed our belief that real change happens when learning meets accessibility. The Legacy Lab is more than a day of programming; it is an investment in the future. It represents Atlanta Life's 120-year mission to empower families, strengthen communities, and ensure that financial education is not a privilege, but a right for all.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Chandler Park Academy and to every student who made this year's Legacy Lab unforgettable. Together, we built more than lessons — we built confidence, understanding, and a sense of what's possible when financial literacy begins early.
The Second Annual Legacy Lab in Detroit was not just an event; it was a statement of purpose. It reflected our continued work to make financial education approachable, impactful, and enduring — because when children learn to manage their finances, they also learn to shape their futures.
